When traversing through different terrains, the electric machinery power consumption is affected by the wheel-terrain interaction (among other parameters), varying the vehicle’s effort and its autonomy (from an energy point of view). In this seminar it will be presented the last results obtained for modeling the instantanoues power consumption of robotic machinery in agricultural contexts, during manoeuvring, with the aim of enhancing the energy prognosis. The results obtained can be used for improving the solution to the route planning problem for a more efficient agricultural process.


Dr. Fernando Auat Cheein is an associate professor at Federico Santa Maria Technical University, Valparaiso, Chile. He developed his researcher career in Argentina, Brazil and Portugal, working on topics such as rehabilitation robotics (closely related to his MSc), SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) and control systems applied to mobile robots. Up to date, Dr. Auat Cheein has more than 50 journal articles (WoS), several conference papers, and served as editor or invited editor of books, journals and journal special issues (such as ”Mechatronics in Agriculture”, at the IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics). He leads the GRAI group (with eight PhD students -four of them candidates-, several MSc and undergraduate students) and it is a Principal Investigator at the Basal Center AC3E; and he currently leads 3 Chilean NSF projects. His research interests from the last five years include: robotics in agriculture, efficient manoeuvring, motion and planning of service units, human robot interaction (in agriculture) and phenotyping.
